Information about Colossians: Colossae is a city in modern day Turkey, somewhat close to Ephesus, located in a region called Phyrgia. It is the easternmost city that received a letter from Paul. However, when Paul sent them a letter, their city was in decline. Paul visited them in his third missionary journey.

|-------------------------------|

Colossians 1 begins with a short greeting. The main content, or "body" begins at Colossians 1:3. Colossians teaches us to thank God [a] in prayer. Thank God when others have received the True Gospel, because the gospel is succeeding and bearing fruit.

Pray for one another [b] and please God because He redeemed us and forgived our sins. Verse 3-14 of Colossians 1 in short tells us to be thankful and godly because of Christ, the Son.

The end of this first theme smoothly transitions to the next portion of the chapter. Christ, who saved and redeemed us, is the firstborn over all creation. Does this mean He was a created thing? No, everything is created through him, but he was there first and before everything.

He is also the head over the church, and He is also supreme over all because He came first and through Him everything was created. Through Him we were also reconciled - from enemies to God to His servants.

The last part of the chapter tells us to suffer for the Church just like, as a moral example, Paul did.
