Its first chapter comprises of a greeting (verse 1 and 2) [a], typical of the epistles. Then in the following verses there is praise to God for God chose us before the creation of the world to be holy in his sight. He predestined in love and adopted us to sonship through Jesus Christ.
In Him we have redemption and He lavished His grace unto us and brought unity between all things in heaven and on earth under Christ. We were chosen and predestined [b] according to God's plan. When you believe in the gospel of salvation you are marked with a seal: the Holy Spirit. (Verse 13).
We should be thanksgiving and we should pray often. Pray for others (verse 16) and thank others (see same verse). We should pray so others can know the hope from God (verse 18) and God's power. When He raised Christ from the dead and seated him at His right hand Christ became full of authority and dominion, and Christ became the head over the church.
[a] Romans 1:7, 1 Corinthians 1:3, 2 Corinthians 1:2, Galatians 1:3, Colossians 1:2, etc.
[b] Jeremiah 1:5
