Proverbs 6 - Walkthrough

Hello and today I'll continue the Proverbs series. Late timing today - (it was kind of because I was sort of tired after writing Sunday's 1 Peter sermon, let's hope that doesn't happen next week), but anyways, let's begin the proverb of the day, Proverbs 6. Proverbs 6 was a proverb of King Solomon. In the last chapter, he warns us not to engage in adultery, and in this one, he warns us not to be a fool - and not to be folly. What is foolishness/folly? Folly, or foolishness is a characteristic of somebody who is the opposite of wise and is reckless or unjust. The chapter begins by telling us that when we have been trapped by a stranger/sinful person's ways and methods, this is what we should do: since we have fell, we must free ourselves from that stranger's trap, because we can take their bad ways/doings and do them ourselves. In the next paragraph/stanza, it tells us to go to wise people and be taught by them, rather than the opposite - to bond with fools....

30 June Sunday Sermon - 1 Peter

Hello! It's Sunday again. It feels weird that the beginning of this blog was just ONE WEEK ago, isn' it? Anyways, let's cover this Sunday's sermon I heard today, covering the general letter of 1 Peter, coming after the Book of James. Let's begin: 1 Peter is a New Testament book after James and before 2 Peter. Peter the apostle of Jesus wrote this, by around 64 AD. It begins with the usual opening for New Testament letters: it covers the purpose, author, and has the greetings. He is directing this letter mostly to Christian believers in modern day Turkiye, who is facing persecution by their families, and of course the government. Let's go through subtopic per subtopic, and discuss them.  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subtopic 1 - Greetings (Reading: 1 Peter 1:1-3). This is the usual beginning of all New Testament letters. He refers to himself, who he is writing for,...

Proverbs 5 - Walkthrough

Sorry for the late timing, but here's Proverbs 5 for the daily series! This starts a new topic in Proverbs: Warnings against X. Let's begin the chapter! Today's daily chapter is written by King Solomon, and only composed of one topic, named " Warning Against Adultery". The chapter begins with the usual opening, to pay attention to wisdom (a common pattern in the proverbs uses the phrasing "My son" and also referring to wisdom often). Afterwards he tells us not to fall to the tempation of an adulterous or sinful man/woman and he warns us against that temptation, and then in the second stanza he states not to bond or associate with that kind of people, because you will regret it later. It recommends   us to "drink water from your own cistern" a metaphor used by Solomon to be satisfied with one's preexisting spouse. In the final stanza, Solomon writes that the Lord knows all our actions and will judge fools. That's the end of today's ...

Proverbs 4 - Walkthrough

Hello! Continuing the Proverb series is Proverbs 4 - which continues on the topic of Wisdom. Let's explore Proverbs 4, the daily proverb of the day! Proverbs 4, like 2 and 3, only comprises of one topic, named "Get Wisdom at Any Cost". Basically, the first few chapters of Proverbs are about wisdom and its value, you can see this with this comparison: Proverbs 1: The purpose of the proverbs: To gain wisdom. Proverbs 2: The moral benefits of wisdom. Proverbs 3: That wisdom bestows well-being. Proverbs 4: That wisdom must be acquired. Let's begin the summary! King Solomon also wrote this proverb. It states like every other proverb at first, with "Listen, my son(s)". He states that the audience of this proverb must read and keep the commands of this proverb. It then states to get wisdom and understanding and not to forget them, and that it has great value. It then says that to be wise you must well, get wisdom, even if it costs all you have, since wisdom's ...

BCN Series - Part 1: Events, Schedule, and Preparations

Hello! I just finished Bible Camp National, BCN, for Indonesia. In this event, for two nights and three mornings, 1024 people, and around 500 assistants and workers stayed in GRII Pusat's boundaries. BCN happens every year, and people from all around Indonesia, and some from international nations gather to hear God's word. Since BCN is such a gigantic event, I will divide it into a two part series. The first part, about the event and activities, will be written on June 27, and the lessons and studies on June 28. Let's discuss the event first. BCN, Bible Camp National 2024 is a yearly event starting in 2018, organized by GRII (especially GRII Pusat) . Nine speakers are involved this year, including Stephen Tong and multiple other pastors. Bible Camp is an evangelical summer camp, and I have joined two years of this event: 2023 (Kasihilah Tuhan dan Hidup Suci, Give to God and Live Holy) and 2024 (Kasihilah Tuhan dan Rajakan Yesus, Give to God and crown Jesus). I will tell fo...

Proverbs 3 - Walkthrough

This is the third blog on the Proverbial Daily Series, which has been pauses previously because of BCN, so I couldn't update it. Today I resume the series with the third proverb: Proverbs 3 summarized. Also, I will add a new feature to each blog: I will give a highlighted verse straight from the real source that I think is the most important and captures the most points. Proverbs 3, like Proverbs 2, is all under one topic: named Wisdom Bestows Well-Being. Somewhat similar to Proverbs 2 - it emphasizes the benefits of wisdom. Let's go through the chapter. Solomon, third king of Israel and son of King David wrote this chapter. The first stanza is about to remember teaching and wisdom you learned and keep them, because they will reward you. He says that if you remember and use wise teaching, you will win favor in the sight of both God and man. The second stanza teaches us about trusting God and not relying on yourself. The second stanza is quite short. The third one compliments t...

Proverbs 2 - Walkthrough

Hello! Today's the second day of the Proverbs series. Sadly, I can't do the proverb walkthroughs on Jun 25 and 26, so on June 27, I'll do some extra if I remember! Today is Proverbs 2, and yesterday was Proverbs 1. You should try to read it in order. Anyways, let's begin! The first and only part of Proverbs 2 is the Moral Benefits of Wisdom. The general idea of this chapter is wisdom and it's benefits. The proverb starts with basically like this "If you accept wisdom". This phrase gets repeated with multiple synonyms, but with the same idea.  After that, the author then tells us that if we accept wisdom, we will fear the Lord and find the knowledge of God. He then says multiple times that God gives us wisdom and understanding, plus success for those who are upright. The author likes to repeat the phrases, as the type of poetry used likes repeating phrases with similar meanings, for example: "Turning your ear to wisdom, and applying your heart to unde...

Proverbs 1 - Walkthrough

Hello! I want to start a new daily series, but I don't know if it will last long or not. I will try and cover each of the proverb chapters (Proverbs 1-31) - and describe the content without the poetic words. Today, the covered chapter is Proverbs 1 (Proverbs, written by King Solomon and other authors is an Old Testament book under the biblical book genre "Poems". It is after Psalms. Let's quickly go through Proverbs 1! The first part of Proverbs 1, called Purpose and Theme, emphasizes the author, King Solomon (The third king of Israel, the one who famously built the temple) and also tells us about wisdom and how to acquire it. It also emphasizes that the contents of the proverbs of Solomon are meant for readers to gain wisdom and instruction. The following goes like this: To be wise, you must learn and be guided to understand wisdom, but also you must fear the Lord, because that is the roots of knowledge. In the second part, the Prologue, it warns us not to fall to t...

The Book of James - Summary and Walkthrough

Image
June 23, Sunday - Book of James -   Hello! I want to share about today's Sunday's School's sermon. In my Sunday School this year, it goes through the entire New Testament, book by book. The year is divided into four parts (52/4=13 per part). I'm in the last part right now. In the last part, on June 23 specifically it covers the book of James. James is divided into several subtopics: Random Fact: This book is known as the Book of Wisdom of the New Testament. In the Old Testament , the Book of Wisdom is Proverbs. Subtopic 1 - Trials and Hardships In this subtopic, James explains how trials and hard times are oppurtunites, and that you have to persevere. Historically, the author of James, James is the leader of the church in Jerusalem during the early church. The Jewish Christians received persecution and seperation, so James wants to emphasize on these hardships. Trials and hardships are God's tests and enhancements for you (in James' perspective during his time...
