SIL Gky Puri Summary, Overview and Feedback -
June 19, 20, 21, SIL Summary and Feedback -
Hello! On June 19,20, and 21, for the first half of day, I went to SIL at GKY Puri, a children's event organized by GKY Puri (most parcitipants of SIL were Ipeka National Puri, nextdoor to GKY Puri, and on the 21st, I also spent time in another place).
Here, I want to show you about the following studies, events, and the feedback I have towards the event.
Event Schedule:
In the first two days (June 19&20), ir went like this: there were Sessions, which were a configuration of multiple posts, such as: Mission (bible study), Music (choreography), Cooking (cooking), Craft (or marketplace), and Games (activites). There were also snack breaks and a lunch time, with provided meals. In the beginning there was a gathering, and so was in the end.
Timeframe: June 19 was 7am-14.15pm, June 20 was 7am-15.15pm.
In the third day (June 21), it was different. Instead of in GKY Puri, we went via bus to Animalium museum and aviary at Sentul. The bus trip was one hour, and it was quite interesting.
Timeframe: June 21 was 7am-14.30pm.
Studies:
The theme of this SIL was represented by this catchline: "Stand firm". The bible studies were situated in the Old Testament in the book of Daniel. The studies were conducted during the Mission part of sessions, where there was sort of a play, where people acted as biblical figures according to the stories.
Let's go through each story:
Session 1 - Daniel Arrives in Babylon
History: The story begins in Israel, specifially in Judah. For a long time, Israel has been divided into two nations: Judah and Israel (Judah's first king was Rehoboam, and Israel's first king was Jeroboam). Israel had recently been invaded by Assyria, a strong nation from Mesopotamia. However, Judah remained strong under King Hezekiah. Judah remained powerful and indenpendent until eventually they fell into wickedness, and even after many prophets trying to turn things around, the kings of Judah stayed bad. God was angry, so he let Babylon, another powerful country from Mesopotamia, under King Nebuchadnezzar to invade Judah. Many Judahites were exiled, though some stayed behind in Jerusalem. However, when the new puppet king of Judah tried to rebel against Nebuchadnezzar, against the word of the prophet Jeremiah, Jerusalem was butned to the ground and destroyed. Among the exiles were Daniel, a strong, healthy, and smart follower of God. Nebuchadnezzar set out only select individuals to work for him in his palace to serve for the king (the king refers to Nebuchadnezzar). Daniel was one of them, and though in a palace of a foreign nation, he and his friends with him (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego), stayed faithful to God.
Lesson: Remain faithful to God in tough situations. Trusting in God might give you a good situation or position.
Session 2 - Nebuchadnezzar's Dream
History: Now, the king of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar couldn't sleep because of a dream he found terrifying, but he didn't understand it. So, he brought all of the magicians and astrologers of Babylon to try and figure out his dream's meaning. The astrologers, however, were unable to answer his question. The king threateaned them by saying that if they couldn't do so, he would kill them and destroy their houses. The astrologers said that nobody could do such a thing, to interpret his dream. So the king ordered the execution of every wise man in the kingdom, including Daniel and his friends. The king's commander went to Daniel, but then Daniel basically replied, "Why was the king so harsh?". And the commander told him about what happened, and Daniel went to the king, and asked for time, so he could interpret the dream. Daniel returned to his house, and with his friends they pleaded for mercy from God concerning the situation, and later at nighttime, the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then, after that, Daniel praised God in thanksgiving. Then, Daniel said to the king's commander, "Do not execute the wise men of Babylon. Take me to the kinf, and I will interpret his dream for him." So Daniel was sent to the king, and the king said to him, "Are you able to tell me what I saw in my dream and interpret it?". Daniel basically replied, "No man alone can explain to the king the mystery of his dream, but God can.". He told him the contents of his dream: The king saw a huge statue of a person that looked great and amazing. The head was of gold, the chest and arms of silver, the belly and thighs of bronze, its legs of iron, and its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay. While the king was were watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. The rock struck the statue and destroyed it completely. The rock became a huge mountain and filled the whole world. The meaning of the dream was that he symbolized the head of gold, and the other parts of the statue of different materials were kingdoms to come. The rock symbolized the Kingdom of God, which destroyed all the human kingdoms. After telling the meaning, the king hinored him and made him have a great position in the government of the kingdom.
Lesson: God can reveal everything, including future events.
Session 3 - The Blazing Furnace
History: King Nebuchadnezzar made an idol of a false god of good - around thirty meters tall, and three meters wide - if you theow a ball from the roof of it, it will take a solid 2 and a half seconds for it to hit the ground! He ordered for everybody in the empire to bow down and worship it. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Daniel's friends, however, did not bow down, and remain standing. As the king commanded, anyone that did not worship it was to be thrown inside a fiery oven to die. Daniel's friends were thrown in, but they were not mauled by the fire, but they walked around regularly. Another fourth figure miraculously appeared in the furnace, and looked liked a son of God. Nebuchadnezzar, shocked, ordered them to come out. Not a single thread of their robe was burned - nothing was harmed to them. Nebuchadnezzar promoted Daniel's friends' roles.
Lesson: Stand firm in God, and don't fall to temptation, because God can deliver you out of situations.
Session 4 - Darius and the Governors
History: After Nebuchadnezzar's reign, Belshazzar was king. However, God punished him and his empire, and then a new kingdom came: the mighty Persian Empire under King Darius. King Darius, like his predecessor Nebuchadnezzar, also put Daniel in a powerful position in the government. He put him in a very high role among the other governors, known as satraps. The satraps were jealous and tried to trick the king in punishing Daniel, so that they would get a higher role. The satraps made this plan: they knew that Daniel every day prayed to God, facing towards the sky in his window, overlooking the street. They would present this rule to the king: Anybody who worshipped any other god or deity besides the king would be thrown into a den of lions. The king was tricked and accepted for the rule to be published. Then, when the governors saw Daniel praying, they went to the king, and Daniel was thrown into the den. The rest of the story is covered in the next session.
Lesson: Continue worshipping to God, no matter the circumstances. Don't be shy or afraid to pray.
Session 5 - Daniel in the Lion's Den
History: Darius couldn't sleep the night Daniel was in the den. When the sun appeared the next morning, Darius quickly rushed to see Daniel. He thought that he had alread been mauled and killed, but when he asked Daniel, thinking he was dead, Daniel answered! Daniel replied, "May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.". Darius was shocked in joy, and lifted Daniel out of the den. No wound was founded on him, because of his trust in God. The king sent the people who accused Daniel for breaking the laws of the empire into the same den, along with their families. And as soon as they reached the grounds of the den, they were mauled and crushed. Darius praised God afterwards.
Lesson: If you trust in God, God will save you.
Feedback to S.I.L
That was the end of the sessions, and now I want to give feedback to SIL:
Isaac: The experience in the three days were quite nice, and teachers were also quite nice. The teaching was also good, and in the bus trip, it was very safe and had a lot of gatherings to ensure no one was lost, or their belongings. It is very cheap for the content, only 150.000 per person. I don't have any complaint I remember.
Conclusion
So, that was a summary of SIL - the event, the schedule, the content of the teachings, and my feedback towards this experience!
