Jeremiah 49,50,51 - Daily Summary
Hello!
Jeremiah 49 - 39 verses
This chapter is a rebuke on not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, but six different nations. This starts with a message on Ammon. Like Moab, God promises restoration of Ammon's fortunes, but He also points out their wickedness - they trust in their riches and have security in them. Riches do not make us secure, but it is God. God continues to rebuke Edom because of lack of wisdom and it will be overthrown horribly. God does not neccesarily promise any restoration in this message. Concerning Damascus (a general term for Aram and all the Syrian country, which before included Hamath, Aram and Arpad) God says it will be destroyed. The exact reason is hard to tell why, but possibly idolatry. God also comments about Kedar, Hazor, and Elam. In general, remember not to trust on any worldly things, from money to humanity, and not be confident in them.
Jeremiah 50&51 - 46 verses ans 64 verses = 110 verses in total
I grouped these two chapters mainly because both have the same theme - the rebuke on probablt the second most important nation referenced in Jeremiah - Babylon. Throughout Jeremiah, Babylon is seen as a strong military force about to wreak havoc on Judah, the surrounding kingdoms, and beyond. Here, Babylon is being criticized. God has used Nebuchadnezzar as an instrument to judge and destroy, but a mere instrument, and Babylon will not last itself. God is supreme. This is probably mostly due to idolatey (see verse 2) but Babylon has many other sins. This chapter is about the gigantic downfall of the most powerful human authority at the time, and it is encouraged in the chapter to take vengeance on Babylon because of what it has done. God is the one who takes vengeance, although sometimes, such as using Nebuchadnezzar to destroy the other kingdoms and later the Persians to destroy Babylon, he uses humans. He said He will punish Babylon but Judah will be redeemed and forgiven. Babylon in the book of Revelation represents evil or satan, and it is very important because it basically symbolizes human wickedness and evil overall. This is somewhat a foreshadowing of trhe final judgement. This judgement came true - only about a century after, the Persians and Medians entered the city and Babylon fell. In all, remember that God is supreme over any human authority, how powerful it is,a nd will deliver vengeance and destruction.
