Jeremiah 46,47,48 - Daily Summary
Hello!
Before I enter Jeremiah 46, I want to say that it is better to read the proper Bible than summaries, we should find the truth from the source. You could read these as overviews/for other opinions.
Jeremiah 46 - 28 verses
Many of the prophetic books has rebukes on different nations, such as Isaiah. For example, Isaiah 13-23 is all judgements and rebukes towards a certain collective country. Jeremiah 46 is an example of this kind of judgement. In this chapter, God tells of incoming judgement more than warning of a possible one. God says that Egypt wiill prepare for battle, but their warriors will fall. Not only Egypt falls, but people who rely on it - also see Psalms 146:3 about this. This disaster on Egypt and the other wicked reminisces of the final judgement of God - there is a "day of disaster" in verse 21 and a "time for them to be punished".
Jeremiah 47- 7 verses
Quite similar, but about the Philistines instead and four times shorter. This chapter is a warning of destruction and there will be utter destruction. Practically from Jeremiah 39, and practically from the beginning of Jeremiah 1, there has been many warnings of judgement. This chapter also emphasizes that when God wills judgement, His "sword" will not rest. He is the supreme judge.
Jeremiah 48 - 47 verses
This chapter has a similar overall theme and is a message about Moab. This chapter is very interesting, because there is a twist at the end. For 46 out of 47 verses, the predominant theme is judgement, destruction, wrath. God is wrathful, and this is one of his properties, which is something not to neglect nor misunderstand. Moab was a very idolatrous and sinful nation - in fact, Moab was produced out of a scandal between Lot and his daughter. Nevertheless, God will "restore the fortunes of Moab in days to come". God will change some and shine mercy on them.
