Weekly Sunday Sermon - God Taught His People How to Worship

 Hello!

Today, the lesson taught is about "God Taught His People How to Worship". The Biblical reference is taken from the chapters Exodus 25-Leviticus 27, which means this is a fairly long portion of the Penteteuch. First, let's recall the past few weeks' lessons.

We learned that the Israelites were being enslaved, so God delivered them (this, deliverance, is the theme of Exodus). First, He called for them Moses, then performed the Ten Plagues, incredibly parted the Red Sea and afterward provided for them in the wilderness. They stopped at Mt. Sinai. Last week, we learned that God gave His people the Law, and when Moses was still on the mountain, the Israelites disobeyed by creating an idol, namely the Golden Calf.

Clearly, the Israelites were being disobedient. They were not worshipping God, but this metal crafted idol, and they were worshipping wrongly. We, however, are not very different from them. In the same way, we can "worship" the "idols" of the screen and many others by putting our identity on that "idol".

So, God must teach His people how to worship properly. Thus, He set in place worship laws and details, which can be read in said chapters in the beginning. Why must he be worshipped properly? Because He is Holy, and in result He must be worshipped seriously, which cannot be a mess. Thus, God put these rules. We learn that when these rules are very recklessly disobeyed in Leviticus 10, Aaron's disobedient children, Nadab and Abihu, were consumed in fire inside the Tabernacle.

Speaking of the Tabernacle, what is the Tabernacle's importance? From Exodus 35 to 40 there is an interesting part of the book of Exodus. It has four main themes: God has set a special place, person, means, and day/time for worship. These are respectively the Tabernacle, the Priests, the Sacrifice for Sin, and the Holy Days mentioned particularly in the book of Leviticus. However, these things have been replaced! They have been replaced with Christ. We do not have a particular "place" any more, although we do have churches. Christ is our Priest, Our Final Sacrifice.
