Weekly Sunday Sermon - Genesis 4: Godly and Ungodly People, Sinfulness, and Common Grace
Hello! This sunday I learned about Genesis 4. Let's cover several points:
1. Everybody is sinful.
Everyone is sinful when they were born - and we all have a sinful nature. When Cain and Abel were born, even before they could commit any single sin, they were already sinful. Why? Because Adam sinned, and, since Adam was the representative of humanity, we all sin. When the leader makes a mistake, everyone under his or her leadership too faces the consequences of their leader's mistake. Sin is not only an action but a nature.
2. Common Grace
In the story of Genesis 4, after the popular story of Cain and Abel, Cain was banished. But in the next few verses, there is the story of Cain and his descendants: Cain settles a city, his descendants practice music, tentmaking, and metalworking, and they are very succesful. How could these ungodly, wicked people have much success? God gives everybody, both the godly and ungodly, some common grace.
3. Ungodly and Godly people
But common grace is not enough to grant salvation. You need a saving grace, a grace for people who trust God and have faith in him. Godly people - those who have these good traits will have saving grace, but ungodly people - those who deny God and choose to rebel - will not have saving grace, but only common grace. Abel was a godly person - but Cain an ungodly one.
That's all for today!
