Weekly Sunday Sermon - Genesis 11: The Tower of Babel
Hello!
Last week we saw how Noah was saved for God favored Him and He trusted and obeyed God. He had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth, and they multiplied (see Genesis 10). Let's see if Noah's descendants can keep God's law.
In Genesis 11, we see humanity working together for what is wicked. First, they disobeyed God already in the second verse. God told them to spread but rather the entire world moved eastward and stopped instesd of spreading outward. They settled in a place called Shinar.
They had the same language and they decided to make a tall tower. They did not do this for anything but themselves and it is their pride that makes them want to construct such a tower. They want to make a name for themselves (Genssis 11:4).
The Lord is Holy and must stop that activity and He acts. He confuses their language and the workers stop and were scattered. We learn God is Holy and Just (he stops the activity) but also Merciful (He did not wipe them away). We also learn that humanity is not sinless after the flood.
That's all for today!
