Weekly Sunday Sermon - 13 October: Noah
Hello!
Today I learned about some of the lessons from the story of Noah and the Ark (Genesis 6 up to Genesis 9). We'll go through it in a point way.
1. God shown favor to Noah.
In Genesis 6 we know the world was wicked and people were. God is Holy and cannot stand evil. He decided to send a flood to wipe out the human race, but one man and his family found favor: Noah. Favor is actually more "grace" and "mercy. Noah was also sinful. But what made him different?
2. Noah was trusting.
What made him different? The answer is, that Noah was righteous and he trusted God. How do we know he trusted in God? Now imagine this: you are a man living in a world where there has never been rain that poured on the earth. And you are asked to build a huge "boat". People laugh at you, thinking you're insane. But Noah trusted and remained faithful. His trust made him different. He was also righteous. When God told him of the flood, he shared that knowledge to others. In 2 Peter 2:5 it says Noah was a "preacher of righteousness" and thus he was saved.
3. God and the Flood
God used the flood to get rid of wickedness, but it was not permanent. There was still sin. Noah was still sinful. In Genesis 9:21, shortly after the ark landing story, we see that Noah drank wine, became drunk, and was naked in his tent. Still, there was sin. But God made a final "once and for all" "flood", and that was by sending, not a flood, but Jesus. In the flood, the wicked died, but God sent Jesus to die for the wicked.
4. A New Beginning
But after the flood, God did not leave Noah there. He did not say to Noah, "Well, the flood's over. Go!". Instead, there was provision. God first said to Noah and his sons to be fruitful and to increase in number. God established a covenant - a relationship with Noah. He also allowed humanity to eat animals. He gave Noah "everything" in the creation. But he also gave rules. He said whoever murders must die and that is their punishment.
That's all for today.
