Ecclesiastes 9 - Summary and Walkthrough
Hello! It's really late so this will be quite quick.
Ecclesiastes 9 is titled "A Common Destiny for All". There is all a common conclusion and destiny for every person. The righteous and the wicked, the good and bad, the clean and unclean, and the God-fearing and the God-hating.
Every person has a similar destiny. Death overtakes us all and the living is better - the dead knows nothing and does nothing. So Solomon commends us to be joyful in the short life we have and to enjoy the result of our works. So be active.
Another of Solomon's observations is that the "good" are not always rewarded with "good". Rather, time and chance happens to them. Another thing Solomon meditates on is on how we never know the time of our death.
The second section of Ecclesiastes 9 is about how Wisdom is better and superior to Folly. Solomon tells a story: there was a small city with few people, and a king attacked and besieged the city. A man in that city was poor but wise, and he saved that city with his wisdom. But nobody remembered the poor hero. So Solomon said, "Wisdom is better than strength and folly.". Solomon tells us to heed the wise' words but refuse to the exclamation of a fool.
That's all for today!
