Ecclesiastes 10 - Summary and Walkthrough

Hello! We're at Ecclesiastes 10, the third last episode of the Ecclesiastes summary series. Luckily I could complete this episode early into the day.

Ecclesiastes 10' entire chapter are a list of meditations about Ecclesiastes 9' last topic: Wisdom better than Folly. So let's begin Ecclesiastes 10 in a verse-by-verse perspective.

Verse 1-4: These four verses compare wisdom and folly and their stark differences in consequence. The wise goes to the right but the fool to the left. In everything they do, fools lack sense and they have no honor.

Verse 5-7: Solomon observes an error that is evil, and that is wicked, and one that comes from a ruler: Fools are put in high positions while the rich occupy the low ones. Solomon has saw this in great irritation.

Verse 8-9: Solomon sees that we are always at some kind of danger or risk, no matter what we do. A wise thing to do and a thing to do all the time is to be alert, vigilant, and careful, as everywhere there is some danger.

Verse 10: Wisdom knows what is needed and what is useful. Wisdom and skill leads to success.

Verse 11: A foolish decision leads to little wages or large consequences, and a foolish person are faced with them.

Verse 12-14a: These verses are another wise to fool comparison, stating that the wise person's words, the produce of their lips, are gracious, but the words from the mouth of the fool ends themselves and they are wicked madness.

Verse 14b: The latter part of verse 14 is about how nobody knows what is in the future. Nobody can interpret beyond now with certainty, and nobody can know anything after their death.

Verse 15: All the fools' works are futile and useless, and they have no sense.

Verse 16,17: In the high position, there should not be the poor or the fool - the poor have less experience with wealth and power, and the fools are reckless, but rather the nobles and the rich.

Verse 18: Laziness leads to destruction and crisis, it leads to only bad condition, so end your laziness.

Verse 19: Money is the fundamental worldly possession in this world, it can be used for many things that you need.

Verse 20: Do not attack or annoy your leaders or those above you in authority, as you might be reported and punished.

That's all for today!
