Thats some basic info regarding this book. 1 Corinthians comprises of many of Paul's rebukes on the Corinthian church.
1 Corinthians chapter 1 starts with a greeting like all of Paul's letter do. It then continues with Paul thanking the Lord that the Corinthians have believed.
Paul then continues by pointing out the Corinthian church's failures, wrongdoings, and sins. Corinth was a major city for trade and the time and had a sinful environment - Corinth was filled with temples that appreciated pagan false gods and the traditional Corinthian practices involved sexual immorality. Knowing of Corinth's sinful environment can make us realize maybe why the Corinthian church had so many issues.
The first issue Paul tells of is the church in Corinth's degradation to several factors. One of them says, "I follow Apollos", and another "I follow Paul" and they separate to separate factions and groups, causing internal conflict and issues between church members.
But Paul says that Christ should not be divided, nor shpuld we believe in church leaders as we believe in Jesus! We are not baptized in Paul's name nor was any church leader crucified for us and ressurected! Separating our church to factions ignored the Cross and Jesus' sacrifice, do not idolize any church leader.
In the last segment of 1 Corinthians 1 Paul emphasizes how the crucifixion of Jesus is a display of God's power and wisdom and how it is wisdom.
That's all for today!
