Psalms 116-120 - Daily Summary
Hello! Today is the twenty fourth episode of the Psalmistic series, and we will discuss the God-inspired psalms of Psalms 116, 117, 118, 119, and 120. This will likely be the longest psalms blog.
Psalms 116 - Of David.
This psalm shows us another reason to worship that we do not do enough - worship God because of His gifts and deliverance. David worships the Lord because He has heared his prayers and delivered David from destruction and distress. Not only does the Lord deliver us from situations like these, but most of all, He saves us from sin and destruction as He has given His Son Jesus.
Psalms 117 - Unknown. Possibly of David.
The shortest psalm, and the shortest chapter in the Bible with a whopping 2 verses. It is a worship psalm encouraging everybody, even of different origin, to worship God and His faithfulness, for It endures forever.
Psalms 118 - Of David.
A worship and thanksgiving psalm similar in theme to Psalms 116 but a little less emotional. It tells us we mustn't be afraid and call out for the Lord's assistance in all times, for He helps his chosen ones. So Worship Him.
Psalms 119 - Unknown. Possibly David, Ezra, or Nehemiah.
The longest psalm and the longest chapter in the Bible. The first section of the chapter, Aleph (v 1-8) is about how the blameless is blessed for how they follow the Lord. The psalmist wants to be blameless like them. The second section, Beth (9-16), is a prayer so the Lord may teach the psalmist His rules and commandments. The third part, Gimel (v 17-24), shows the psalmist's appreciation and adoration of the Lord and his statutes. The fourth part, (v 25- 32), Daleth is a confession of the psalmist's sadness and wickedness and deceit, and the psalmist wants wisdom and righteousness. He (v 33-40, not the pronoun) is the fifth part of the chapter, folloiwng the theme of the previous parts, and that is a seek for righteousness and great understanding. Waw (41-48), the sixth part, is a prayer for Salvsation and Love from God. Zayin, the seventh part (49-56) has a similar theme of adoration of the Lord's Laws. Heth (verse 57-64) is a declaration from the psalmist to obey the Lord's law and never to forget it. Teth (65 to 72), the ninth part, is another petition to God for knowledge and teaching, for we were wicked. Yodh (73 to 80), the tenth, is adoration to God and His perfect rules and decrees. Kaph, verse 81 to 88 and the eleventh part of Psalms 119, is on how the psalmist struggles and needs God. Lamedh (verse 89 to 96), the twelth, Mem (verse 97 to 104), are all about how the words of God are wise and great, and Nun, Samekh, Ayin, and Pe, (verse 105 up until 136) is more praise and adoration to God and all His law, and also sadness because of his and others' iniquity. Tsadhe (verse 137 to 144) has a similarr theme, encouraging us to follow God's commands even in trouble, Qoph (verse 145 to 152), the eighteenth subchapter, is another prayer for help, Resh, Sin, Shin, and Taw, the last four subchapters have similar theme. Overall, Psalms 119 is about wisdom and God's Word and Command.
Psalms 120 - David.
This psalm reminds us of the Lord, who answers all our prayers, He fulfills his anointed one's desire. The Lord will destroy the wicked, for they gossip and attack. This is a short psalm.
That's all! The bible verse is the a hundred and fifth verse in Psalms 119, in the section of Nun, a very popular verse:
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path. Psalms 119:105 -
