New Testament - Summarized

Hello! This is the second version of the Bible: Summarized, where I have already posted the first part (The Old Testament - Summarized), and now is the New Testament summarized. We will go book by book.

 Group 1 - THE GOSPELS

The Gospels are four books (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) about Jesus' birth, life, ministry, and death. We will cover the main flow of every gospel and then the attributes of each one. Two of the gospels (Matthew, Luke) cover the birth of Jesus (or John the Baptist first, for Luke). The Nativity story is quite well known, but here's a fact about it - three wise men did not visit Jesus, as we do not know the number of wise men, as the Bible never states the amount. After Jesus was born, King Herod wanted to kill him but He escaped to Egypt. After that, according to the Gospel of Luke, Jesus was shown to Simeon and Anna, who were faithful Jews who waited for the Messiah to come. Also in Luke (a lot of Jesus' early life is in Luke), he was left in the temple for three days, and the priests there were amazed. Some time after this, John the Baptist was in the wilderness, and he preached and baptized people, preparing the way for Jesus. Jesus was baptized too, and the Holy Spirit came down on him. This began his ministry. He performed many miracles, healed many people, and taught many crowds. Major events include being rejected from his hometown Nazareth, choosing the Twelve Disciples, the Sermon of the Mount and the Transfiguration. Now, Judas Iscariot accepted a deal from the chief priests and they gave him silver. Jesus was caught and crucified after trials under Pontius Pilate. After his death, he was buried and resurrected. Forty days later, he ascended into heaven.

MATTHEW

Matthew is a synoptic gospels, with similar stories. Matthew was written by the tax collector and apostle Matthew. It starts with the birth of Jesus and ends with his resurrection. It was written more specifically to the Jews.

MARK

Mark is synoptic gospel written mostly to the Gentiles. It was written by a man named Mark, who was an evangelist though never an apostle of Jesus. It begins with the ministry of John the Baptist and ends with Jesus' resurrection.

LUKE

Luke is a synoptic gospel written to the Gentiles. Luke was a physician (doctor) from Antioch and followed Paul in his journeys. Luke starts with the birth of John the Baptist and ends with his resurrection. It has 28 chapters in all,

JOHN

The Gospel of John is a Spiritual Gospel which is more symbolic and poetic. It with John the Baptist's ministry and ends with his resurrection. It is more theological than historical.

Group 2 - HISTORY

ACTS

The book of Acts (written by Luke) is a record of the history and missionaries of the Early Church and their stories. Acts begins with the Ascension of Jesus and ends with Paul's arrival in Rome. It begins with the stories of the apostles of Jesus, and then to Paul and his missionary journeys.

Group 3 - LETTERS

ROMANS

The letter of Romans was sent by Paul to the Church in Rome. It is mostly about doctrine and about justification, sanctification and glorification. It is the longest of Paul's letters (that is, if you only count book/book, but if you count both versions as one, Corinthians is).

CORINTHIANS 1&2

The letter of Corinthians was sent by Paul to the troublesome Church in Corinth. First Corinthians was sent by Paul addressing the problems at the church, including division, idolatry, conflict, and more. 2 Corinthians, a letter of gratitude for their repentance.

GALATIANS

The letter of Galatians was sent by Paul to the churches in Galatia. Its teaching is about how we are justified through grace and faith, not by works (yet, works are still important). It says we do not need to follow the Jewish Mosaic Law to be a Christian and to be accepted.

Ephesians, Philippians, Thessalonians, Colossians

The letters of Ephesians, Philippians, Thessalonians and Colossians are to Ephesus, Philippi, Thessalonica, and Colossae respectively. Philippians is about to find life and joy in christ, Ephesians is about God's gift of grace and that we should life according to God's grace. Thessalonians is about the second coming of Jesus, and 2 Thessalonians is about perseverance. Colossians is about that we must change and change our character according to the Lord.

1&2 Timothy

Timothy was the successor of Paul in many of the Churches in Achaia (Greece) and he formed many churches there. Paul sent two letters to him, two letters of guidance. The first letter is about how we should resist false teaching and hold on to the Truth, and the second letter is perseverance in faith to the Lord.

Titus

Titus was a traveler and companion to Paul who was stationed by Paul in Crete to watch over and from churches there. This letter to Titus to spread the gospel around Crete from a culture of sin to one according to Jesus.

Philemon

There was a man named Philemon, and his servant Onesimus escaped out of his household and became disrespected (as escaped servants those days were despised), but Paul begged his master Philemon to forgive Onesimus.

Hebrews

Hebrews was written by an unknown author, varying on topic, such as about Jesus, faith, and more. I have a 13-part for each chapter of Hebrews series I have posted for details.

James

James is about many wise topics and lots of guidance. One of the main themes is about faith and action, but there are many. My very first blog is about the book of James in further detail. James brother of Jesus wrote the book.

1 Peter, 2 Peter

1,2,3 Peter is also in further detail in the past. 1 Peter is about perseverance amidst suffering, 2 Peter is about pursuing Spiritual Maturity. These two letters were written by the Apostle Peter.

1,2,3 John

1 John is how to know if you have been saved or not, 2 John about protection against false teaching and those who preach it, and three john is to a man named Gaius who was ministering over a church.

Jude

Jude was written by Jude and is about how we must not follow false teachers, we must not follow bad examples of the past, and also defend the Truth. It was written by Jude brother of Jesus.

Revelation

Revelation was written by the apostle John and it is about the vision he experienced concerning the End Times and the second coming of Jesus. It is the very last book in the Bible and was written at the island of Patmos.
