21 July Sunday Sermon: 2&3 John

Hello! Today's sunday I heard about 2 and 3 John, 2 books that succeed 1 John and precede Jude. Let's enter! Today's lesson is quite a short lesson.

Subtopic 1 - Theme of 2 John

2 John was written circa 85 AD by the apostle John, the last living apostle at the time. It was written to a Christian family who seems to run a church. John wants to warn and advise them, but the letter is short, as he did not want to write, but see them face to face.

Subtopic 2 - Contents of 2 John

John tells them, and us, to walk in truth and love. John is happy they are walking in the truth, and the greatest joy is the joy of the knowledge of that you are walking in the truth, or someone you love is. He commands us to love one another, but do not welcome false teachers that reject the words uttered by Jesus.

Subtopic 3 - Theme of 3 John

3 John was written around the same time as 2 John and 1 John, and was sent to Gaius, a friend of John. He wants to warn him and advise him, as it had been sixty years at the time since Jesus died, and a less experienced second generation of Christians came,

Subtopic 4 - Contents of 3 John

John is happy Gaius is also walking in the truth, and that he is faithful. We must be faithful too, and show hospitality to fellow Christians and teachers, but reject false teaching. He gives us to examples. One of them is the man Diotrephes, who does not welcome missionaries, a bad example, and the man Demetrius, who welcomes missionaries.

That's all! There are two chapters in both books in total. The daily verse from this book is 3 John 1:4:

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.
